Bucket list - Macarons

If you have been following me from my past posts, you will know I have made a bucket list of things that I have never baked/cooked before. This week I decided to make macarons!

After researching many recipes I decided on one and gathered all of my baking supplies needed to make these yummy french pastries. I chose to make funfetti macarons, because if they don't taste good, at least they would look pretty :)

You will need:

1 cup - Almond flour
3/4 cups - Powered sugar
2 - Egg whites
1/4 teaspoon - Cream of tartar
1/4 cup - Granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon - Vanilla extract
Your choice of sprinkles

Buttercream filling
5 tablespoons - Softened, unsalted butter
1/2 cup - powered sugar
2 teaspoons - Almond milk
1 teaspoon - Vanilla extract

I purchased my silicone baking mats on Amazon.

In my Kitchen Aid I beat 2 eggs until I began to see bubbles, then add small amounts of the cream of tartar and granulated sugar until it is all combined. VERY IMPORTANT, beat eggs until they begin to peak and then add vanilla...DO NOT OVER BEAT. In another bowl, sift almond flour and powered sugar, I sifted it three separate times.

Take flour/sugar mixture and slowly fold into egg white mixture, DO NOT OVER MIX. Add your desired amount of sprinkles to your mixture. Put mixture into pastry bag and pipe onto silicone baking sheet. Beat pan on counter to help any air bubbles escape. Allow macaroons to dry for a bit before you place them into the oven. Place macarons into a 300 F oven for 12-15 minutes. Allow macaroons to cool before you pipe filing inside.

As you can see, they did not turn out perfectly. Macarons take a lot of patients and skills to execute properly. I really had such a fun time making these sweet little treats and I cant wait to cross the next item off my bucket list, stay tuned.
