My 24 hour trip to New Orleans
On a recent trip to New Orleans I had very little time to explore the city but these are my top 5 places on my adventures in NOLA.
1) Cafe Du Monde
This was my first stop when we got here because I was told by a friend that I had to stop for some warm beignets. There are many Cafe Du Monde locations, but you have to visit the location on Decatur St. because this is the original location and it is such a busy and fun experience. The beignets are smothered in cups of powered sugar and a warm cup of hot chocolate topped of the experience perfectly.
2) Burbon St. & beyond
A check off the bucket list for me! Burton St. was all I hoped it would be, lots of people, full of bars, smells funky, and theres always something going on. I visited the weekend before Mardi Gras so the streets where decorated and there was a lot of pre partying and parades going on. If you look past the bars and the tourist shops you will see the beautiful old architecture with gas lit lanterns that is now clashing with the retro scene.
3) Royal 801
I have a shellfish allergy so I did not dig into the crawfish that New Orleans has to offer. I decided to try something different and i found the perfect spot. Royal 801 has a alligator sausage Po Boy, once i saw it I knew I had to try! The sausage was very tasty, and of course there was a spicy cajun flavor infused into the delicious sandwich.
4) Get a drink at one of the oldest bars in America: Laffites Blacksmith shop
Such a unique cool bar that can be traced back to 1761. There are no lights inside, everything is lit up by candle light or the fireplaces throughout the bar. Very neat please to visit but drinks were not cheap.
5) Museum of death
Not for the faint of heart! I could not get any pictures because photography is not allowed inside. I am really into true crime and constantly listening to my favorite podcast, True Crime Couple. There are letters from serial killers and pictures that I had never seen before from the Nicole Simpson crime scene. There is history about death and how bodies where preserved throughout history. NOT a place for kids. Eat before you go because you will not be hungry on your way out!
